Hyderabad, August 28, 2025: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a flash flood warning in Telangana, placing as many as 25 districts under a yellow alert following continuous heavy rains. With rivers, reservoirs, and lakes swelling rapidly, officials have advised residents to remain cautious and avoid unnecessary travel in low-lying areas.
Heavy Rains Lash Telangana
Over the last few days, Telangana has been witnessing widespread rainfall due to active southwest monsoon conditions. Several regions, including Hyderabad, Nizamabad, Karimnagar, Warangal, Khammam, and Adilabad, have reported heavy to very heavy rainfall. The IMD has cautioned that the rainfall activity is likely to continue for the next 48–72 hours, with the possibility of isolated extremely heavy showers in some districts.
The continuous downpour has led to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and rising water levels in reservoirs and irrigation projects.
Flash Flood Warning Issued
The Central Water Commission (CWC) along with IMD has warned of possible flash floods in multiple catchment areas. Low-lying regions near rivers like Godavari, Krishna, Pranahita, and Manjeera are expected to face rising water levels, posing risks to nearby habitations.
Disaster Management authorities have been put on alert to ensure timely evacuations, relief operations, and rescue measures if necessary.
